Dear esteemed members of the Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences (KICS),
Under the slogan “50 Years Together, A New Beginning for the Next 50 Years,” the Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences (KICS) has begun the year 2024 briskly by celebrating the 50th anniversary of its founding. With the active interest and participation of all our members, KICS has achieved remarkable accomplishments in promoting its status as a leading academic society representing South Korea both domestically and internationally, and is bringing the year to a successful close.
The 15th International Conference on Information and Communication Technology Convergence (ICTC 2024) was held successfully in Jeju Island, Korea, on October 16–18, 2024. The ICTC is a major international conference on information and communication technology (ICT) convergence.
ICUFN 2024, now in its 15th year, was held in Budapest, Hungary, both in-person and online, from July 2nd to 5th. Budapest, often called the “Pearl of Danube,” is one of Eastern Europe’s top three nightlife destinations.
The 5th Korea Artificial Intelligence Conference (KOREAAI 2024) was held between September 25 and 28, 2024. KOREAAI 2024 was held in Sono Calm on the Picturesque Island of Jeju, South Korea. This conference focused on the theme “AI for ICT Convergence,” highlighting the importance of artificial intelligence in advancing information and communication technologies.
On July 16 (Tue), our society co-hosted the 6G Satellite Communication Conference in collaboration with the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute(ETRI), the Satellite Communication Forum, the Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science(KIEES), and the Korea Society of Satellite Technology(KOSST), at the EL Tower in Seocho-gu, Seoul.
The 2024 Defense ICT Convergence Technology Exchange Conference, organized by the Civilian-Military IT Convergence Society of the Korea Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, has been successfully completed. The conference, which was held on October 24 at the Aero Technology Research Institute of the ROK Air Force Logistics Command, is an event in which industry, academia, and research organizations participate to discuss and share technical issues between civilians and the military.
Recent Nobel Prizes in Physics and Chemistry have demonstrated that artificial intelligence (AI) plays a significant role in research and industry, profoundly impacting fields such as communications and networks. The 2024 Future Communication Technology Workshop featured 16 presentations over two days, highlighting topics related to the use of AI in wireless, wired, and application-based services.
I am truly honored and deeply humbled to receive the prestigious 2024 Haedong Academic Grand Prize from the Haedong Science Foundation and the Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences (KICS). Above all, I extend my heartfelt gratitude and love to my mother, my dear wife, and my children, who have always been my greatest sources of strength.
